Hello and welcome to the live blog of Day 1 of the third round of Ranji Trophy clashes. We have (Karnataka vs Delhi) and (Mumbai vs Madhya Pradesh) covering the games for us and I'm Akash Sarkar and I'll be keeping a track of the other games.
Stay tuned for regular updates!
Uh, oh! Just when we were gearing up for a big one from Gambhir, he top edges one to Karun Nair off the bowling of S Aravind. Karnataka have been reduced on 10 for 2.
Mohammad Kaif and his men have made another brilliant start and are on top of Haryana. Bishnoi is caught behind off the bowling of Pratik Sinha. Let me tell you, I was there in Ranchi for the first game Chhattisgarh played and Sinha looked a very promising player. Doesn't quite have the pace but pretty accurate. Haryana 22 for 2.
Early wickets:
Abhimanyu Mithun strikes on the fourth chunk of the match and traps Unmukt Chand plumb in front. Delhi have lost a wicket without a keep running on the board.
Over in Guwahati, Pankaj Kumar Rao, who moved back to playing for Chhattisgarh subsequent to speaking to Madhya Pradesh, has struck early and has expelled Nitin Saini gotten behind. Haryana 16-1.
VA Jagadeesh too has a disillusioning begin to this begin. He is gotten behind off Chama Milind. Kerala 5-1 and Rohan Prem exits to bat.
Group A
Mumbai: The Aditya Tare-led team sealed a nervy two-wicket win over Tamil Nadu in the first game in Lahli in a match that lasted just two and half days. They found themselves in a spot again against Baroda but managed to bag three points on the basis of first innings lead.
Punjab: After a disappointing show against Railways, where they conceded first innings lead, they hammered MP in the second round in Lahli. Yuvraj Singh led from the front while Manpreet Gony nipped out the wickets with ease. What will be heartening for the think tank will be the form shown by Gurkeerat Mann and Jiwanjot Singh.
Madhya Pradesh: In the last season, MP made it to the semifinal for the first time since 1998-99. They started the season with a huge bonus point win against Uttar Pradesh in Hyderabad but were made to play catch-up for most parts by Punjab.
Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu have shown some fighting spirit very early on in the tournament! They were shot down cheaply by Mumbai but their bowlers kept them in the hunt in a paltry chase before Abhishek Nayar bailed Mumbai out. Then against Railways the sealed a massive come-from-behind win after some controversy.
Mukund, in the second innings, started celebrating his century without completing his run. The bowler whipped the bails off and the TN captain was found inches short. Though he argued that the ball was dead after the keeper had collected it however umpires ruled him out.
